Tree Planting at Porter Public Library, Westlake

A donation of an Ohio Native Tree, “Autumn Brilliance” Serviceberry,, Amelanchier grandiflora, which Shirley did the background research on Ohio Native Trees that The Herb Guild was important factor to The Herb Guild and the Porter Library’s requirement of being showy in the fall.
As Shirley coined it, ‘Christmas in June’ donation to the Westlake Porter Public Library to replace a tree that died a couple of years ago. The joint purchase of the tree was from Cahoon Nursery in Westlake on June 1, 2022 and the tree planting took place the weekend of June 11th, and Tree Dedication Ceremony in front of the library to the right of the American Flag Pole took place on June 15, 2022. Attending the Tree Dedication Ceremony was Andrew Mangels, Director of Westlake Porter Public Library, Shirley Swindell, President of The Herb Guild, and attending members of Porter Library Board of Directors. This also was a joint effort between The Herb Guild and Porter Public Library to take the Pledge for Holden Forest & Gardens initiative “People for Trees.” it was a proud moment for both The Herb Guild and Westlake Porter Public Library on one of the hottest June days in years with temperature at 95 degrees F.
