The Herb Guild is a predominantly west side organization that has been in existence for over 40 years. The members meet on the second Wednesday of the month at Porter Public Library in Westlake, Ohio (27333 Center Ridge Road) in the Porter Room. Although the name suggests that the club is primarily associated with herbs, the members are very interested in all types of gardening, including flowers, house plants, and vegetables. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of herbs and plants with everyone via our meeting or monthly newsletter. The club also has a website theherbguild.org and is on Facebook under The Herb Guild.
The Herb Guild is a member of The Holden Arboretum and Gardens and The Garden Club of Ohio. We participate in events sponsored by these two organizations as well as our own meetings, bus trips and workshops. The club received seven awards in 2018 presented by the Garden Club of Ohio, including first place for its website, membership flier, the youth club award, and the civic beautification award.
Monthly meetings usually involve a business meeting, a lunch provided by different groups of members each month, and a workshop or presentation. The meetings last from 10am to 2pm. Membership dues are $25 per year and members are expected to participate in club events. There are currently 50 members in the organization. Projects include maintaining a public herb garden at Rosehill in Cahoon Park of Bay Village, the annual Scholarship Luncheon in August which provides scholarships for 2-3 area students, and various workshops sponsored by the club. We always welcome new members either to join or try us for a monthly meeting or two. If you would like more information, please contact Joyce Hayward at 330-801-7202.
Every year The Herb Guild contributes to the GLOW event . In 2019 we contributed a wreath which was displayed in the cafe at the Garden Center.
